I became a teacher 5 years ago after a career in business which took me over the world for 30 years. I enjoy the interaction with my students. The job is challenging and extremely rewarding. At EC Malta, I work with a great team of colleagues from all the different departments. There is a positive attitude and we all try to help each other. I enjoy the fact that each day is different and that I come into contact with business students from different parts of the world.

I love teaching English because it gives me the opportunity to use my outgoing character and give rein to my creativity, in a constructive way that benefits both my students and me. Maltese born, I've lived in Sydney, Australia most of my life so it's a real pleasure to be living and teaching English, my first language, in Malta, my mother country. One of the best points about working at EC is the camaraderie in the staff room. We work as a team and are always there to lend each other a hand. At EC, I feel that I'm part of a professional, internationally accredited company. It gives me great pleasure to watch my students progress and receive their positive feedback. It gives me a sense of a job well done.

Teaching is an extension of who I am, sharing and learning. Malta has a vibrant and colourful culture and diverse student base, so always interesting and challenging. EC's teaching methodology suits my unconventional teaching style. I like to teach people to ask why and challenge them and for them to challenge, grow their English inside themselves. I like to use different forms of teaching tools from video podcasts to newspaper articles, but always with fun. It's a great emotion and we learn more when something is emotional. EC rocks on the rocks!

I think English is a wonderful, rich language. I have always been fascinated by the origins of words and the nuances of the language. I love the opportunity I have to share my love of this language with my students. When I started to teach with EC many moons ago (about 12 years) the school was across the road from my home. It was a small school with maybe 20 classes. It was really lovely, we were like one big family. I realised then that I had found my niche in life...This was where I wanted to be and just what I wanted to do. The school moved to St. Julian’s...it grew, and grew, and grew. I grew with it. I did my best to adapt to all the changes. Hopefully I managed. Today, EC is huge, it is global, and I still love it. It is exciting to be a part of this ever-growing, ever-changing company. A plethora of emotions have accompanied me at EC throughout the years. Both students and colleagues have come and gone, there have been many tears, as well as much laughter and happiness. I have always loved a challenge. Teaching regularly presents me with new challenges which keep me on my toes. Whether a rather weak exam class or a ‘difficult’ student...I relish the chance to overcome whatever challenge comes my way.

I have been teaching English for over seven years now and it is a job that I find very challenging. While I only teach part-time, it is certainly not something which begins and ends in the classroom. It unconsciously becomes very much a part of your private life too.A song on the radio, an interesting article in a magazine, a discussion with friends or on the TV all becomes potential material for use in a lesson. Teaching can be highly rewarding as you watch the students’ linguistic skills improve and working in a school like EC where students often return for a further course of studies gives you the opportunity to follow their progress. It’s great to see their satisfaction as they go from strength to strength and know that you have been a part of that achievement. It is impossible to leave out the social element and the friendships I have made at EC are something I will always treasure. Sharing a cup of coffee and a few laughs, discussing lesson plans and teaching experiences are all part and parcel of daily life. It is all these elements that make me one of the lucky ones – someone who enjoys going to work in the morning!!
