Student Testimonial

EC Cape Town is well situated in central Cape Town and it's a nice place where I can learn and improve my English. The teachers are very kind and help me in my learning with friendliness and professionalism. Moreover, there is no reason to be bored at EC, each week several activities and trips around CT are suggested. It's an excellent way to practise English with the other students who come from all over the world. Before I came here I had no idea about EC, but I'm very satisfied with the lessons and the friendly atmosphere of the school.

Teacher Testimonial

I was born in Cape Town, South Africa, but spent most of my childhood in the United Arab Emirates. After working in Dubai for some time I decided to move back to Cape Town to do my Master’s in Education at the University of Cape Town which I am on the brink of completing. What I love about living and working in Cape Town is that the city itself which allows you to, literally, do anything you want (the beach is on your doorstep and the wine lands are only a few kilometres away). On that note there is nothing better than being outdoors in Cape Town taking in the scenery and the atmosphere while sipping on a glass of wine or a coffee with friends.

I am a native English speaker and have been teaching English as a Foreign Language for about six years. I have spent most of my career working in Cape Town and Dubai. During this time, I have also worked in secondary education settings teaching English Literature, and in tertiary settings tutoring university students in Anthropology and Academic English. My focus in EFL is on delivering quality courses in General, Academic and Business English. I have taught both IELTS and Cambridge Exam courses which have given many of my students the ability to immigrate or study at English medium universities around the world. I am also currently focusing on teacher training at EC Cape Town, which has allowed me to pass on many of the skills I have learnt during my Master’s course to my fellow teachers. I find this the most rewarding aspect of being at EC Cape Town, as it believes in facilitating teacher development from its very own teachers. I have learnt a lot from my colleagues and the administration, so any student can be sure they are receiving the most skilled language instruction that Cape Town can offer.

Learning a language is a journey and there are many things to be learned from taking a wrong turn. In short making mistakes are good – as long as you learn from them. Interact, focus and engage with your classmates and the city you are studying in, there is always something to learn. And most important of all, question everything! Understanding is the key to unlocking your potential!

My classes are outside the box! I draw on interactive media, role-play, and student-to-student focused activities that give my learners the space in which to be creative and comfortable. Furthermore, I believe that learners should always be actively engaged in their learning and I strive towards this in every lesson I teach.
