Why Diablo Valley College (DVC) ?

Diablo Valley College (DVC) is located in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area, city of Pleasant Hill, California, a residential area approximately 45 minutes away by car from San Francisco There is also a satellite campus in San Ramon, California and is one of the three colleges that make up the Colleges of Contra Costa. Lake Tahoe, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, the Napa Valley and the Pacific Ocean are within driving distance for weekend activities, as well as nearby Silicon Valley (Google, Facebook). The student body of 28,000 includes 10,000 full time students. Currently there are 600 international students representing 58 nationalities at DVC. An active student life is found on campus with more than 75 student clubs, International Student Club, International Education Week activities, and events for international students.

DVC offers tremendous value with smaller class sizes, free academic tutoring and educational planning. Student work/employment opportunities are also available through CPT, OPT, and on-campus employment.

*Cost is an estimate per academic year based on 12 units/semester (total of 24 units for the academic year) and subject to change.

  • Scholarships: Partial scholarships available to currently enrolled DVC students only
  • Housing: No on-campus housing; Several off-campus housing options for international students are near the college and include unfurnished and furnished apartments, rooms for rent, and living with a family (homestay).
  • DVC is a top sender of transfer students to the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) – 42% admit rate (Fall 2022)
  • University Pathways: Six University of California (UC) campuses offer the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program to students from DVC, including UC Davis; Irvine; UC Santa Barbara; UC Santa Cruz; UC Riverside; and UC Riverside. – 90% admit rate to all UCs (Fall 2022)

The International Students Academic Bridge program is a Student Success Learning Community Cohort for new international students who want a head start. Upon completion of the Academic Bridge Program, international students will be integrated into the general international students population at DVC, and continue to receive follow up services, such as counseling and tutoring support. Offered in

  • 6-week summer session: June – July
  • 8-week fall session: October – December
  • 8-week spring session: March – May

    • Completed DVC application
    • Copy of passport
    • Bank statement (min. $28,454)
    • Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL 61 IBT or 500 iTP, IELTS 5.5, Duolingo 95, or ITEP 3.5)
    • 18 years of age or 16 with proof of high school completion.
