Our centre is located on the campus of South Bank University, right in the heart of zone 1 of central London close to Elephant and Castle, Waterloo and Westminster.

The London Eye and the South bank are all within close walking distance making this an ideal location to explore the many sights, sounds and
attractions that the exciting city of London has to offer.

Living

  • Students stay at McLaren House residence in single en-suite rooms arranged in flats of 5, 8 or 10 students in each
  • Communal space in each flat
  • Room furniture includes a wardrobe, desk and chair
  • Rooms cleaned weekly
  • Laundry available in the residence building
  • Meals are served in a large self-service dining hall
  • Large communal space on the ground floor with reading corners, board games, ping pong table and foosball table
  • Wi-Fi available throughout
  • A deposit of £30 or €40 is required upon arrival and replacement of lost key is £190. Replacement of a university access card is £10

Dining & facilities

Meals are served in large self-service dining hall (spread across 2 floors) in the main University building, in the LSBU HUB.

Breakfast

Continental including juice, tea or coffee, toast, cereal and fruit.

Lunch

A minimum of 2 options available, including a vegetarian option.

Packed lunches (provided at weekends) :

Water, fruit, sandwiches, crisps, and biscuits.

Dinner

A minimum of 2 options available, including a vegetarian option.

Facilities

  • Indoor multi-purpose sports hall available once a week
  • Local park used for games and activities
  • Laundry is available in the block C, washing is £2.50 and drying is £2.50 per cycle

Learning

Bespoke lesson materials, the Embassy lesson is designed to engage students in discussion, to develop the key life skills of collaboration and intercultural communication, and to provide extensive opportunities to practice and build on current language.

17 students per class and classes suitable for students of all levels.

All learning resources provided are age appropriate and all students receive an end of course certificate of attendance.

Programme

Arrival

Students will be welcomed upon arrival at McLaren House where they will register and get their room keys so that they can check-in to their rooms.

 

Welcome

On the first evening there will be a welcome activity which is designed to ensure students have the opportunity to meet staff and other students and get to know more about the campus, its facilities and useful information which will help them during their stay.

 

Activities

Activities are organised on days when there are no trips and during evenings, these activities take place either on-site or near the centre.
These may include:

  • Sports such as football, mini Olympics, rounders, table tennis, volleyball and basketball
  • Daytime activities such as scavenger hunts and drama workshops
  • Evening activities such as disco, karaoke and film nights

Our students get to explore exciting places around London every weekday, they visit places such as: The British Museum, the Imperial War Museum, St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower of London, Oxford Street and The National Gallery.

Cambridge: This iconic university city is famous for its colleges, where we will visit a famous college.

3 Week Sample Programmes

Each 21 night stay will include a total of 15 local accompanied visits to London with visits/activities and 3 full-day excursions to other major cities such as Cambridge, Brighton and Canterbury. Transport for trips may be by private coach or public transport.

If a student needs medical attention an Embassy staff member will help make an appointment. Group Leaders must accompany the student to an appointment. An Embassy staff member will accompany any student that is not part of a group.
