Programme

Arrival

Students will be welcomed upon arrival at Rieber Hall, where they will register, get their room keys, and check in to their rooms.

Welcome

On the first evening there will be a welcome activity which is designed to ensure students have the opportunity to meet staff and other students and get to know more about the campus, its facilities and useful information which will help them during their stay.

Activities

Activities are organised on evenings and afternoons with full-day excursions on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. On Sundays students can choose between an optional — not prepaid — excursion or on-site activities. These may include:

  • Sports such as tennis, basketball, and American football
  • Drama and performance activities such as scavenger hunts and talent shows

Full-day Excursions

Downtown LA: Students get to explore the most interesting sites such as LA Cathedral, Olvera Street, LA Union Station, Chinatown and the Getty Centre.

Hollywood: Students get to stargaze on the famous Hollywood Boulevard with stops at the Walk of Fame, Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive.

Beach Day: No visit to California is complete without a trip to the beach! Beach days includes trips to the Getty Villa, Malibu, Zuma Beach, Santa Monica and Venice Beach.

California Science Center and Disney Concert Hall: Students get to learn the wonders of science through interactive exhibitions and visit the magnificent concert hall of Walt Disney, with a stop in the historic district of Little Tokyo.

Grammy Museum and Griffith Observatory: Students visit the famous Grammy museum, the Staples Centre, home arena of LA Lakers. They also do a stop from some shopping in Santee Alley and finish off with a visit to Griffith Observatory.

Disneyland: The first and still one of the most visited theme parks in the world

Universal Studios: Full of action-packed adventure of rides, shows and real movie studio

Six Flags Magic Mountain: This 260-acre theme park features world-class roller coasters and over 100 rides

3 Week Sample Programmes

All Day Programmes start on a Monday and vary in length dependent on the centre. Some includes the full 7 days of the week, others 6 days (excluding Sundays) and the Malta programme for Juniors (8-13) include 5 days. Students will take part of lessons, have lunch at the centre and go on activities and excursions with the rest of the students. Below is a sample of the full summer programme.

Student may have lessons either in the morning or in the afternoon in week 1, alternating weekly after that.

Student Welfare

We place the highest priority on care and supervision at all of our Embassy Summer centres so you can rest assured students are well looked after. Members of staff are available 24 hours a day.

Student Services

Our student support staff can help you with:

  • Airport transfers
  • Information about local services
  • Assistance with individual and personal problems
  • Emergency contact

Medical information

If a student needs medical attention an Embassy Summer staff member will help make an appointment. Group leaders must accompany the student to an appointment. An Embassy Summer staff member will accompany any student that is not part of a group. All costs have to be paid by the student. Students must have written consent from their parent or guardian for any medical treatment to be administered. Students must provide proof of medical insurance prior to arrival.
