Description of Local Area

Located in the scenic tree-filled Pacific Heights, the friendly Monroe Residence is only seconds from the unbeatable views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay and Alcatraz. The Monroe is steps away from the bus stop and one block from the cable car line, which passes through Chinatown on the pleasant ten-minute trip to the downtown business and shopping districts.

Description of Accommodation

A classic Victorian building constructed in 1906, The Monroe is located in a residential area called Pacific Heights on a quiet street with apartment buildings and homes, only minutes to the central business district by bus. Single and twin bedrooms are available with shared vintage bathrooms. Each room is equipped with a desk, dresser, closet, Wi-Fi, and a television.

Meal Description

Half board (breakfast and dinner). A typical breakfast consists of hot eggs, fruit, toast, cereal, coffee/tea available Monday - Saturday. Continental breakfast and brunch served on Sundays. Full dinner provided Monday - Saturday, menu changes daily. All meals taken in the dining room.

Arrival and departure

  • Arrival day: Saturday (Sunday arrival on request)
    Check in time: Guests can check in at 12pm but if the room is ready early the guests are allowed to check in earlier. If the room isn’t ready and the guests come before 12pm, they can leave the luggages at the residence and also wait in the lounge room. There is always someone at the front desk to check-in.

Cancellation prior to arrival

Students cancelling or postponing 14 days or less prior to their accommodation dates will be charged a two-week accommodation fee at the rate quoted in the price list for the accommodation booked and the accommodation placement fee.

Cancellation after arrival

Students leaving their accommodation must give notice in writing 4 weeks prior to termination. If the 4-week notice period is not provided a cancellation fee equal to 4 weeks of the accommodation cost will apply.  After deducting the price of accommodation used at the rate quoted in the price list, including the required notice period charged at the same rate, students will be refunded the remaining accommodation costs.

Airport Pickup

If you have booked accommodation with EC you must arrive at the airport between 08:00 and 20:00. Late/early arrivals may be asked to book alternative accommodation You will meet an EC transportation representative holding a sign at the terminal information desk.
If after 10 minutes you cannot see the EC representative, just call+1-415-459-7632. (from the information desk or a mobile phone).
If your flight is missed, delayed, or cancelled, or if there is any other problem, you should notify EC by calling 1-415-734-8040 (from the information desk or a mobile phone) to rearrange your transfer time and avoid additional cost.

Taxi, BART to 16th street then bus 49, BART to Civic Center then bus 19 or 101X, bus 398 to bus 47.

House Rules

  • Students need to be 18 + to choose this residence
  • Mixed Gender: Male and female students share common areas and facilities, but bedrooms are single gender
  • No deposit required
  • No smoking is permitted in the residence
  • Guests are not allowed
  • Minimum stay: 2 weeks
  • While we promote and support diversity, we cannot guarantee language mix. However, we always encourage students to use English to communicate, be respectful and inclusive of others
  • EC provides a clean living space for all students and expects a basic level of respect from all students. For example, if something is dropped, pick it up; do not leave clothes and belongings on the floor; place rubbish and leftovers in a garbage bag
