Our centre is located next to the seafront and is part of University of Portsmouth. Both the centre and accommodation are within a short walking distance of the city centre, the Historic Dockyard and the Clarence Pier. The centre consists of modern facilities, comfortable single en-suite rooms and large common areas. The programme offers lots of opportunity to explore the dynamic city of Portsmouth and all it has to offer.

Living

  • All students stay in single en-suite rooms in Rees Hall
  • Room furniture includes wardrobe, desk and chair
  • Rooms and bathrooms are cleaned weekly

  • Laundry available in the residence, free of charge
  • Meals are served in a canteen located in Rees Hall
  • A deposit of £30 required upon arrival, replacement of lost room key is £35

Food Options

Breakfast

Continental and cooked breakfast (depending on the day) including juice, coffee, toast, cereal and fruit.

Lunch

Two courses, three options including vegetarian and halal.

Packed lunch (provided at weekends): water, fruit, sandwich, crisps and biscuits.

Evening Meal

Two courses, three options including vegetarian and halal.

Snacks

There are several shops nearby for purchase of snacks, drinks and confectionery.

MEALS
Meals are served in a canteen in Rees Hall.

Learning

  • Taught by friendly and professional English teachers
  • 20x45 minute lessons per week, morning or afternoon
  • Placement test on day 1 to ensure students in appropriate level
  • Maximum 15 students per class
  • Students will be placed in an international class with students of different nationalities
  • Spacious standard classrooms
  • Modern classrooms are located a short walk from the accommodation
  • Curriculum with emphasis on communication skills

Programme Information

Arrival

Students will be welcomed upon arrival at the Embassy office located in Rees Hall where they will register and get their room keys and can check in to their rooms.

 

Welcome

On the first evening there will be a welcome activity which is designed to ensure students have the opportunity to meet staff and other students and get to know more about the campus, its facilities and useful information which will help them during their stay.

 

Activities

Activities are organised every evening all week and before or after lessons. These activities could be on-site or near to the centre.
These may include:

  • Sports such as football, mini Olympics, rounders, table tennis, volleyball and basketball
  • Daytime activities such as scavenger hunts and drama workshops
  • Evening activities such as karaoke, talent show,  team games show, and team games

Getting to and From School Activities

Our students walk, travel by local traffic or private coach for activities and excursions outside the centre.

 

Excursions and Trips

HALF-DAY TRIPS

  • Our students get to explore exciting places such as Gunwharf Quays, The Isle of Wight and Arundel Castle, as well as local visits in the Portsmouth area

FULL-DAY EXCURSIONS

  • London: Visit this exciting capital city and take a walking tour of central London, and visit the National Gallery
  • Oxford: Explore this iconic university city and its famous colleges
  • Brighton: Enjoy this vibrant, popular seaside resort with beautiful architecture and visit the Palace Pier and the Sea Life Centre

OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS

  • Thorpe Park: enjoy extreme rides and attractions at this popular theme park
  • London: Madame Tussauds or Tower of London
  • Salisbury and Stonehenge: medieval cathedral city and iconic prehistoric stone circle

3 WEEK SAMPLE PROGRAMMES

Extra

For each 14-night stay students will go on 8 local visits by foot, 2 half-days trips to local towns or attractions and two full-day excursions to London, Brighton or Oxford. Transport for trips may be by private coach or public transport. 
Student may have lessons either in the morning or afternoon in week 1, alternating weekly after that.This programme is for illustrative purposes only and is subject to amendments or alterations.
