EC Virtual for University Pathway Preparation

Preparing for University Pathway – start your online journey with our new pre-sessional programme

Start your path to higher education from home with EC Virtual’s Pre-Pathway Programme

EC Virtual for University or College Preparation
This is a pre-sessional course designed to give students the foundation needed to progress to our full-immersion University Preparation Programme.

Designed for all levels up to Upper Intermediate, students begin learning at home with our EC Virtual programme and get additional support in the form of webinars on various topics including: how to get the most from EC Virtual, an explanation of the Canadian University Pathway Programme, meetings with our partner universities and colleges, and more. They will also have monthly individual counselling sessions to help them choose a partner programme as well as assist with their university applications.

Once their EC Virtual course is finished – and Upper Intermediate level achieved – students will then need to progress, and enrol onto our University Pathway course in any of our EC English schools in Canada for their final English levels. Students passing this part of our programme enjoy full TOEFL and IELTS waivers with our university partners.

Our focus is on better learning outcomes for online English classes through our experienced teachers who are all qualified native English speakers as well as through a combination of:
✓ virtual learning
✓ online collaboration with other students and
✓ self-study

Research has proven that this combination increases overall student learning in online learning environments, allowing more time for student reflection, collaboration and student-to-student interactions.

Our learning platform, Microsoft Teams, is designed for collaboration, so students are constantly virtually interacting with their classmates around the world as well as their teacher.

Students develop more than just English skills, they also learn how to communicate in a multicultural environment – useful in any international business!

Students’ progress is carefully monitored and recorded based on participation during virtual discussions and lessons, attendance and more.

While studying with EC Virtual, students also have access to EC Online, where they find over 1,500 resources for self-study. Thanks to our key partnership with National Geographic Learning students will have access to engaging learning materials that develop global competencies alongside English language skills.

How does it work?

1. Contact us to book
We’ll get back to you as soon as possible to answer any questions you may have. Once your booking has been confirmed, we’ll send the student’s log in information and also an invitation to join an induction session the Friday before classes begin.

2. Attend the Friday induction
Students have the chance to get familiar with the Microsoft Teams platform as well as understand how we teach before enjoying a virtual social activity with their new classmates.

3. Before the class
The teacher will set up a pre-class assignment with relevant questions for students to discuss on Teams with their classmates (in English!). This assignment can be anything from a reading or listening from the course book, a relevant video or article, or a Flashpoint from EC Online. Students’ conversations will be monitored by the teacher and their progress recorded online.

4. During the class
Students collaborate via video with small groups of 4-6 students from around the world and their teacher where they outline objectives and goals, discuss the questions and task from the pre-class assignment, review any questions and set up the post-class collaborative activity as well as the pre-class assignment for the next day.
Students should be prepared for a much more intensive class than a normal face-to-face session!

5. After the class
Students are asked to work on a writing or speaking post-class collaboration activity which they upload on Teams. Just like with the pre-class assignment, they discuss virtually with their group and the teacher will monitor the chat.
