Description of local area

Our school and most of our homestay placements are located in Santa Clara, a city near San Jose, in California's Silicon Valley. Located 45 miles (72 km) southeast of San Francisco, Santa Clara is in the centre of Silicon Valley, and is home to the headquarters of several high-tech companies, including Intel, Applied Materials, Ericsson, Apartments.com and many more.

Nearby attractions include the Intel Museum, Great America, Levi’s Stadium and the Triton Museum. The Intel Museum includes exhibits about technological milestones, such as the making of the silicon chip. California's Great America amusement park is known for its thrill rides. San Francisco’s professional football team, the 49ers, play at Levi’s Stadium. Local artwork is featured at the Triton Museum of Art.

Meal Description

With the meal plan, you will receive breakfast and dinner daily from your homestay provider. Each homestay provider prepares food according to their own food preferences. It is the student’s responsibility to be flexible and to assimilate to the homestay provider’s cooking style.

Breakfast: You will prepare your own breakfast, which may include juice, toast, tea, yogurt, bagels, fruit, etc. American breakfasts are quick and convenient, and not typically hot meals.

Lunch: You will either buy your lunch at school or purchase lunch food to prepare at your homestay. Your homestay provider will give you space to store food in their kitchen.

Dinner: Your homestay provider will provide dinner every day and is responsible for preparing dinner at least five nights per week. On the nights when your homestay provider isn’t cooking, you can reheat leftovers (very popular in America), heat quick dinners, or eat take-out food (purchased and brought home by your homestay).

Snacks: You will purchase snack foods, favourite foods, and/or special foods (for dietary restrictions) on your own.

I want an EC airport transfer, can I arrive at any time?
If you have book Airport transfer with EC you must arrive at the airport between 08:00 and 20:00. Late/early arrivals may be asked to book alternative transportation and / or accommodation for the first night.

What information do I need to give to book an airport transfer?
Please provide your flight number, arrival time, terminal and airport of origin – minimum 2 weeks in advance

Who will I meet at the airport?
You will meet a representative from Elite Ground Transportation Services Inc. holding a sign at the terminal information point

What should I do if I cannot find the EC representative?
If after 10 minutes you cannot see the driver, call the EC Emergency Line. (Useful phrase to use: Hi, My name is (Maria Angeli). I am from (Italy). I am near exit A/B/C)

What should I do if I have missed my flight or my flight is delayed?
You should notify EC by calling  +1 (408) 919-8965 or  +1 619-888-3155 (from the information desk or a mobile phone) to rearrange your transfer time and avoid additional cost.
