  • Housekeeping services provided weekly - Bathroom and floors are cleaned, beds made and garbage collected. Students need to attend to daily garbage. Soap and shampoo are stocked weekly. Residents are responsible for keeping all common areas (hallways, washrooms, and common rooms) clean after use
  • Card operated laundry facilities are available 24 hours a day. It costs $2.25 to wash and $1.75 to dry. Laundry cards may be purchased in the laundry rooms for $5. Laundry soap and fabric softener sheets may be purchased at any convenience store close to the residence
  • Electrical appliances (i.e. kettles, hot plates, electric frying pans, woks, microwaves, and ovens) cannot be used in the residence rooms. A shared microwave and fridge can be found on each floor
  • Luggage drop off is allowed
  • Utility bills included
  • 24-hours security on site
  • Common area with couches and large screen TV is on the top floor
  • Someone is available at the front desk between 7 am and 11 pm daily. In-house security is available 24 hours a day for your safety and convenience and can be reached at extension 3560.
  • A telephone with free access for local calls only avilable in the room. Guests can access long distance by using a calling card
  • Students need to bring their own towels
  • A full breakfast is included and served cafeteria style in the Chestnut Tree dining room
  • Fitness facilities are available free of charge and may be accessed between 7am and 11pm daily. People under 16 are not allowed in the gym
  • The building and the rooms are wheelchair accessible, however the residence is not fully wheelchair accessible/wheelchair adapted (i.e. there is no roll in shower)
  • Parking fee - $24 per day

The residence is located in the heart of downtown Toronto within steps of the shopping and entertainment districts, and offer the best value. Popular attractions, including CN Tower, Hockey Hall of Fame and Roger’s Centre are within one kilometer of the residence. 

Description of Accommodation

Chestnut Residence is centrally located in the heart of  downtown Toronto. It is a residence quality and value, highly recommended by students. All the rooms are private and feature en-suite full bathrooms with amenities.

Arrival and departure

  • Arrival day: Saturday( The student must book the room from Saturday, but can check-in on Sunday)
    Check in: 3pm
    Early Check - in allowed If the room is available/ready when the student arrives at the residence, the student can check-in early.

    Late check out is not allowed

Journey to school

30 minutes by public transport.

From the Chestnut Residence, walk east on Dundas Street for 5 minutes to the Dundas subway station at Yonge Street. Take the subway north to the Eglinton subway station (not the Eglinton West subway station). Walk west 5 minutes to EC Toronto.


Cancellation prior to arrival

Students cancelling fewer than 14 days before arrival will be charged a one-week’s accommodation fee at the standard accommodation rate and an accommodation placement fee.

Cancellation after arrival

Students leaving their accommodation must give notice in writing 4 weeks prior to termination. After deducting the price of accommodation used (including the required notice period charged at standard accommodation rates) students will be refunded the remaining accommodation costs. If 4 weeks’ notice is not provided, a cancellation fee equal to 4 weeks of accommodation will apply.

Take airport pickup from Sherbourne.

Other ways to get to your residence

1.Take the UP Express Pearson Airport to Union Station (3 stops, 25 minutes)
2. Exit Union Station and head south. Take the entrance to Union Station on Front Street (1 minute).
3. Take the northbound train (3 stops) to St. Patrick Station (4 minutes)
4. Exit St. Patrick Station and walk to 89 Chestnut St. (4 minutes)

Arrival Procedures

Please send flight details or an estimated arrival time at the time of booking accommodation or as soon as possible once known. Upon arrival, check in at the front desk in the lobby. A staff member will give you your keys and show you to your room. Upon departure, please leave your room tidy and return your keys at the reception in the lobby.

House Rules

  • Students must be 18+ to choose this residence
  • The floors are mixed gender. The twin rooms are single gender unless two students (of mixed gender) specifically request to share a twin room)
  • No damage deposit collected. Damages will be sent to EC for recovery.
  • EC must be notified of student arrival arrangements and expected times of arrival.
  • Overnight guests are not allowed at Chestnut. All guests must sign in, carry a guest pass and leave the residence no later than 12:00am.
  • Smoking is not permitted in any residence area. The consumption of alcohol is prohibited in any public area of the residence, including the hallways and common rooms.
  • Visitors are not permitted between midnight and 9:00 am
  • If a key is lost a $30 replacement fee will apply
  • Minimum stay - 4 weeks
  • While we promote and support diversity, we cannot guarantee language mix. However, we always encourage students to use English to communicate, be respectful and inclusive of others
  • EC provides a clean living space for all students and expects a basic level of respect from all students. For example, if something is dropped, pick it up; do not leave clothes and belongings on the floor; place rubbish and leftovers in a garbage bag. Please follow the landlord's instructions and take the trash outside on designated days for trash pick up
