Description of accommodation

The residence is comprised of two-bedroom suites, with each student sharing a private bedroom and a common kitchenette/living space and washroom with their roommate. These fully furnished suites are all inclusive and require no additional fees for utilities, cable television, internet or local calling.

Description of local area

The Comfort Residence - Toronto Downtown (also known as the George Brown Student Residence) is located in downtown Toronto next to the Distillery District—an area with shops, cafes and restaurants. It is just a short walk, streetcar, or taxi ride to the city’s best destinations, including the Entertainment District, Union Station, Rogers Centre, the Air Canada Centre, Ripley's Aquarium, the Hockey Hall of Fame and the Eaton Centre.

Toronto Downtown (part of George Brown College’s Waterfront campus) is located in the Canary District, Toronto’s newest urban landscape. This summer hotel alternative, which opened in May 2017, is situated next to the historic Distillery District in downtown Toronto and offers modern amenities with the convenience of living.

Journey to school

Public transportation (TTC) - Approx. 40 minutes
The most convenient way for students to get from the residence to school is by using the TTC (public transportation), which is approximately a 40-minute journey.

To travel to the school, follow the directions below:
1. Walk towards King Street East at Sumach Street (5 minutes) and take the 504 West streetcar - 504 King towards Dundas West Station via King (9 minutes, 8 stops).
2. Enter King Subway Station
• Board Line 1 (Yonge-University) subway and travel northbound to Eglinton Station (16 minutes, 10 stops)
• Exit Eglinton Station and walk west along Eglinton to 124 Eglinton Avenue West, Suite 400 (5 minutes).


Cancellation prior to arrival

Students cancelling fewer than 14 days before arrival will be charged a one-week’s accommodation fee at the standard accommodation rate and an accommodation placement fee.

Cancellation after arrival

Students leaving their accommodation must give notice in writing four (4) weeks prior to termination. After deducting the price of accommodation used (including the required notice period charged at standard accommodation rates), students will be refunded the remaining accommodation costs. If four (4) weeks’ notice is not provided, a cancellation fee equal to four (4) weeks of accommodation will apply. Please note: Certain accommodation options may be subject to special cancellation charges. Should these differ from above, students will be notified at the time of cancellation.

Airport Pickup

If you have booked accommodation with EC, Please provide your flight number, arrival time, terminal and airport of origin – minimum 2 weeks in advance. You will meet an EC transportation representative holding an EC sign outside the arrivals gate.

Other ways to get to your residence

• Walk to UP Express Person Airport.
• Board UP Express Union Station train ($12.00 cash) and travel 3 stops to Union Station (25 minutes).
• Exit train and walk to Front Street at Simcoe Street (3 minutes).
• Take 121 East Streetcar- 121A Fort York Esplanade towards Distillery via Union Station (14 minutes, 12 stops) and get off at Front Street East at Cherry Street.
• Walk east on Front Street East toward Cherry Street and turn left onto Cooperage Street.

Arrival Procedures

Please send flight details or an estimated arrival time at the time of booking accommodation, or as soon as possible once known. On arrival, students should check in at the security desk in the lobby. A staff member will give the student the keys to the room and show the student to the room. On departure, students should leave the room tidy and return the keys to reception in the lobby.

  • Suites are mixed gender.
  • No smoking.
  • No overnight guests.
  • Residence is open to students aged 18 and above.
  • $15 replacement charge for lost access card; $10 for lost laundry card.
  • Suites are cleaned weekly. Students are responsible for cleaning their own bedrooms.
  • For early arrivals and late departures, the student can ask the front desk team to keep their luggage in the storage room.
