Description of local area

The Dunkirk-Fredonia area has a population of 30,000, with both outdoor recreational opportunities and two town centres within a few minutes’ drive from campus.

Students are drawn to the downtown village area not only for the bar and nightlife scene but for many other great attractions right in town. Local caf├ęs often have live entertainment in the form of bands, artists, and open mic nights. The Fredonia Opera House has everything from movie nights to live opera and theatre.

The region, home to Chautauqua Institution and the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History, is an hour from Niagara Falls and is a vacation destination for many interested in arts, cultural, and all-season recreation. If you want to escape for a while, great hiking, golfing, skiing, fishing and boating are just minutes away from your busy life on campus.
